Laurent Vigroux

Professor Vigroux is Director of research at CEA, the French Atomic Energy Commission

He has had leading scientific and technical roles for European Space missions: ISO, XMM/Newton, INTEGRAL, and lately at the Herschel Space Observatory (co-PI of the SPIRE instrument). He was the PI of MEGACAM, a wide field imager for the CFHT, Head of the Service d’Astrophysique of the CEA from 1993 to 2001, and Director of the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris (CNRS and Pierre and Marie Curie University) from 2005 to 2013.

In 2010, Professor Vigroux’s proposal to create an interdisciplinary Institute in Cosmology, Astroparticles and Theoretical Physics was selected as one of the 100 Laboratories of Excellence in France. He was the first director of this Institut Lagrange de Paris. He was involved in scientific advisory committees for the European Space Agency (ESA), and the French Space Agency (CNES). Professor Vigroux is one the two French Delegates in the ESO Council, and he was elected president of this Council from 2009 to 2011.

As a member of the ALMA Board, he was its Vice-Chair (2009 – 2010), and Chair (2011-2012). Professor Vigroux is member of an advisory committee on large research facilities for the French Ministry of High Education and Research.
